My Wedding Brain

So, here it is. Exactly 58 days until our big sha-bang.

So nervous and excited and really hoping all this work will result in some of the happiest memories for us. My FH and I have been working long hours and have poured so much time into finding the perfect items for it, such silly little things like peach or nectar color?? Let alone all the money that just seems to be disappearing. We know that what matters most is being in love and uniting our family as one, its just the whole wedding process is more than I fathomed.

I mean, Ive cried twice about not knowing what our centerpieces will look like.

And cried again when they were finished about how beautiful and perfect they look.

Now Ive planned parties. And Im not talking about little kid parties at the park/restaurant, Im talking week long parties with a different theme each night including an entire house decorated with Halloween props and entrance is a costume, but this party was in June (I know, one of my favorite memories!), a poker tournament night, a day of play at the park including croquet, volleyball, a bbq, and more. I threw affairs that people still talk about this day, 5 years later! Parties of the year!

But! I haven’t thrown one in awhile….Im a little rusty. And a wedding? Where Ive literally been to two weddings in my life and have the slightest memories of them both because I was pretty young.

I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

My wedding will have many attributes to it, but I don’t want to give it away to the friends and family who read my blog. No sneak peeks 🙂 But I will day there will be lots of little nothings that remind everyone how much we love our families and the closeness of each other. Its a typically small wedding, expecting 60-80 people, and having it at a community center.

Im just such a planner, its to the point I don’t even have my wedding party assigned to much. My MOH, bless her heart, her main task is to take care of my meltdowns!! Im just so needing to be in control of everything, and my hand in everything, and picking it all out and making the decisions…about ev-er-ee-thing, that its officially draining me. I mean fifty….eight….days…away… And all of this work is to be shown. No more, oh I need to do this still. and cant forget about that!

I started planning this in January. Yep. Seems ok, but for “FreshFest” my parties of the year week long event, I would plan a year in advance. I thought, well I was working and going to school and planning it, but since Im not in school and work at home, this wont be that hard. I wont be a bridezilla, Im calm cool and collected. Easy peasy. and I have been up until my stupid, Im not even cuss as much as I want to, because thinking about it is starting to piss me off lol, but my stupid computer crashed in June! And that means allll my work that I had saved on that POS was boom, gone. So I thought long and hard about everything I had and looked up even better ideas phew! But this past month. Its fucking crunch time. I gotta do dis.

Ive picked out almost everything-thing, and now its time to whip out some moo-la, and start paying my vendors the other half of what we owe. My FH, bless his heart too, puts up with my silly questions.

Should we have 8 in or 10 in dinner plates?

Which image do you like for our napkins?

How are you going to do our sons hair because hes walking down the aisle too and I don’t want you to put too much grease in his hair……wait why don’t you show me now so I can see?

Im crazy.

Call me Bridezilla.

Oh, and you wont believe all the crap Im forgetting. I said tomorrow is Monday, and tomorrow is definitely Thursday. I thought I had wipes when I left, but I didn’t and had to come back home and leave again! I forgot I went grocery shopping an hour ago….. Seriously?

But Its 58 days away, and Im waiting for my dress to arrive. Probably my biggest omfgoodness getthisshitherenow problem. And everything else seems so little now.

Im really hoping my dress hurries the hell up because…..Im about to find another dress in the meantime just to make sure I have one if it isn’t coming on time……

Hmm.. Maybe Ill do that now..

I mean I cant walk down the aisle in a tshirt right? Well I could but no. nanananana no.

Anyways,

Just an update of why Ive been so neglectful. Too busy online shopping.

Oh and another thing, after this wedding….Im almost positive Im going to have a newfound online shopping addiction. I mean packages twice a week, Im getting used to that!

Im positively-absolutely-coudnt be happier- stupid smiling excited about this wedding and know God has and always has blessed me with everything I need. Its going to be the way He wanted it to be. He has plans. Bigger plans that what I could dream of. Thank you Jesus.

And Happy Monday….Tuesday……Friday??

Pesky Gnats

Tulips & The Stupid Gnats

Me and my “step” daughter (The little girl I nanny for) planted 8 tulips in March. Unfortunately I didnt read all of the instructions for planting and didnt plant them deep enough but we did have some survivors! So we replanted the three survivors in May. Here it is mid June & one of the tulips has sprouted, not bloomed, but close to it! Our plant is about 7-8 in tall! The other two bulbs are at a measly 1/2 in, and I was so confused why!! This morning, I was drinking my coffee outside looking at the plants and I start seeing all these tiny bugs with wings and thought, oh hell no.

I googled it of course, because all mighty google knows it all I guess.

Gnats. Pesky, plant root eating gnats. That means, the reason our plants weren’t growing was because the larvae, not the adult gnats but their kin, was friggin eating the roots of the plants! Grrr…

I am so far from having a green thumb its ridiculous. The only thing I’ve EVA grown successfully have been my annual strawberry patch as a kid. Oh I miss SV.

Anyways, I came inside and told her: Look, we have a serious problem with the plants. We have stupid bugs eating our plants! We need to do something!: She was all on board to kill those pesky little things! (Her fav cartoon is Spiderman and she loves making sure that any bad guy gets his butt kicked! I love it!)

So I went online and found a couple home remedies that I had the ingredients for and we went on a BUG TRAP MAKING SPREE! It was pretty fun actually. And we did more than one just to make sure they would be gone!  Here’s what we did.

1) The first thing we did was: Made a mixture of 2 cups water, 2 Tb apple cider vinegar and 1 Tb sugar. We put a few tablespoons into an old medicine measuring cup, and the rest in a jar. Then we covered them both with plastic wrap & secured with rubber bands. Then we poked small holes with a toothpick and set the jar next to the planter and the medicine cup actually inside the planter and made it level with dirt.

This trap draws the gnats attention to it because for some reason they love the smell of vinegar, apples, and sugar; the plastic wrap with holes allow them to get in but not out, and every 4 days you will replace with a new solution to catch more.

http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Home-Remedies-to-Get-Rid-of-Gnats

2) The next thing we did was: Made sticky gnat trap. We got two toothpicks and taped them together. Taped on yellow construction paper that was the size of an index card. Rubbed petroleum jelly all over it, and stuck into our planter like a plant information card. We made three of these and stuck them in alongside the border.

With this trap, it draws the gnats attention making them think its a flower, with its bright color, and when they go to crawl/land on it, they get stuck in the jelly

http://blog.pennlive.com/gardening/2014/01/how_to_get_rid_of_those_gnats.html

3) Next: Dryer sheets under the planter. We stuck dryer sheets underneath the planter box allowing them to stick out along the sides, kind of like a tablecloth.

This doesnt actually kills any of the bugs, but instead is like a repellant, to keep them from laying eggs. A gnat only lives about a week, but can lay up to 200 eggs! Which then turn into larvae and there is now 200 more gnats from that one stupid pesky bug.

http://pestcontrol.about.com/od/diygnatcontrol/a/Do-Dryer-Sheets-Repel-Pests.htm

4) The last thing we did was: Made a Bug Zap Spray! This was really fun because it took a short amount of time, but she was able to go out there and spray any little bug she saw! She really liked this one. We filled an old, clean spray bottle with 2 cups of water, 2 Tb vanilla extract, and a few drops of dish soap. And bata-bing bata-boom, went out there and wrangled these suckers.

Why this works is because the soap will kill them, the vanilla extract prevents them from returning, and the water is to dilute them so it wont burn the actual plants. (Like if the bug was crawling on the plants and we sprayed them, it would kill the bug and not the petal/plant)

http://www.brighthub.com/environment/green-living/articles/86083.aspx

Concluding, I will make an update on Friday and tell you how the bugs are, and if we caught any with our traps. This was fun and I hope they will be all gone soon!

Thanks for checking this out and if you have any home remedies for gnats or flying pests, leave a comment! If you’ve tried any of these too, tell me your experience!

Happy Tuesday!!

Popeyes Chicken & Family Celebrations

To get some background for the Popeyes celebration: My sister and her fiancee let his 14 year old nephew live with them for six months, to visit for it had been awhile & he finished up his freshman year. He was a delight to meet & get to know; but with the end of the school year, it was time for him to go back home. My sis & her FH were going on vacation to NorCal, my FH’s second Fathers Day was in a few days, and my mom got a big promotion at work (go mom!). All this calls for a good ol’ celebration!

We decided to get some Popeyes and have a family dinner at my sisters house, and it was such a nice time! Take in mind, we loooove to eat! We ordered a boat load of food and everything was pretty good.

Heres what we ordered

) 16 Piece Family Dinner- comes with 16 pieces chicken, 3 large sides, 8 biscuits (Our sides: Mac & Cheese, Mac & Cheese, Green Beans)

$30.99

) 8 Pieces Chicken Strips- chicken only

$10.99

) Shrimp Po’ Boy Dinner **Im a peskitarian meaning im a vegetarian who also only eats shellfish** – comes with 1 regular side (Our side: cajun fries for my toddler, he loves french fries omg)

$5.99

) 3 Large Sides (Mashed Potatoes, Cajun Rice, Red Beans and Rice)

$3.50 ea. total of 9.50

Our total came to about $63.00 with tax included

The food was good, Id say 4.5/5.. Id reccommend the Shrimp Po Boy, its filling and scrum-diddly-umptious    🙂

We also picked up some Shasta Zazz. And if you haven’t tried it, PLEASE pick some up now and don’t deprive yourself any longer. Its a grapefruit soda, but had so much carbonation its ridiculously delicious! While we picked up the soda, we also got a dozen chocolate chip cookies from the bakery. All American Classic Baby!

We dined and hung-out for awhile. My sis’ backyard was getting landscaped, and it was nice summer evening. It was a perfect way to honor our family because eating together and being together really represents who we are as a family.

On that note, Know your family and what connects one another–eating, travelling, sporting, relaxing….whatever it is, make memories. These will last above all else. You cant put a price on them, and you will have these to share with your kids, grand-kids, nephews, nieces, friends, and make for great stories. Write them down too. You dont have to share them with anyone, a journal is just a written picture of a feeling. You can photograph a feeling, but you can describe it and paint that picture. And when you pass, and your family distributes your belongings, maybe a family member will come across your journals, and discover more about you, and even though youre gone, they will feel more connected to you. Its special for them.

Make memories. Love. Laugh. Connect. Theres a difference between existing and living and to you friends…. Live.

Grocery Outlet

Bargain Market 🙂 also referred to by my family as Grocery-O

I am so in love with this place & they also have the cutest commercial songs and puppets. I live close-by to one, and go here often. Every time I go, there’s always new interesting things, however, you may come today and the items will be gone & never return tomorrow. So in essence, if you want it, buy it then and there.

Today I went because my lover lover boy (husband really) made delicious shrimp and vegetable stir fry, with rice duh, and it is beyond delicious. So we had that for lunch and was expected to have it for dinner too, but I really wanted to have some appetizers! I was crazy craving them, and just had to find me some. I looked up some places for a happy hour, and a lot of places did have half price appzs., but I wasn’t in the mood for onion rings, mozzarella sticks, etc. Plus a margarita would be way too tempting even though I have work in the A.M.

Thinking….thinking….Hello! Grocery-O Silly! I never go there just for appetizers, I go for boring day in day out stuff. Lunches, dinners, granola bars, soaps, paper needs, etc. Today, I am headed for an adventure and am coming back with some goods.

I left out the door, by myself, because my husband decided to watch our son (thanks!), and took a stroll to the market. (No I don’t call every store the market, I’m saying that because it is called Grocery Outlet Bargain Market) Out the door, twenty dollars in my pocket, and up and down every aisle to spend 19.00 even. I was not expected to get what I got!

Here’s a list followed by some pictures:

Wheat Bread $.99 (Not as an appz, but because we were out)

Gallon of Apple Juice $1.50

Tortilla Chips $1.99

Black Olives $.69

4 Layer Dip $1.50

Plain Greek Yogurt $1.50

4 Jalapeno & Cheese Tamales $1.50

Potato & Onion Perrogi’s $1.99

Vegetable Samosas $2.99

20 Nut Bars $2.00 (10 for a dollar, score!)

12oz Salmon Fillet $2.99!

I mean look at this cuisine!! Italian, American, Mexican, Indian, the diversity is amazing!

So, after my husband came home from the Pacers vs Heat game, Pacers won, we dined on some delicious appetizers. This is how it went.

I made the perrogi’s in the oven first, taking about 30 min at 350 degrees, then the samosas at 400 for about ten minutes.

Our chips and dip were really good, very fresh!  Shared a jalapeno & cheese tamale, and finally a tamale without so much masa! The masa was delicately wrapped around a boat load of cheese and peppers. These are the ones! The jalapenos were diced which infused all the cheese and masa, and the cheese was just overflowing! Very good and rich, and authentic.

The veggie samosas were on point! In my last post I wrote about dining at an Indian Restaurant and how everything was delicious, well the samosas tasted just as good! We’ve never tried them and they were tasty! I mean crispy and crunchy from the oven, without all the grease of a pan-fry job, warm, seasoned to perfection, cute little triangular shape too.

Then were the perrogi’s, and it was like mashed potatoes stuffed inside dough and then crisped on the outside. It doesn’t sound that good now that I’m reading it, but we put some plain yogurt which is the exact same flavor as sour cream, just a tad healthier and more frugal, and it tasted just like a little mashed potato bite. Very interesting.

Dined and drank apple juice with it 🙂

Later that night, we tried one of the nut bars and I am so glad I bought twenty of those scrumptious things! I unwrapped it and its only about 3 inches long and half an inch thick with the biggest nuts! Sweet and salty and mmm I love nuts!    Wow… don’t be dirty!  😉

That was my night and I hope there is a Grocery Outlet near you, check it out if you’ve never been, there’s always a good deal and interesting food! Tell me some of the things you’ve bought there!

Subway

Mmm. Subway sammiches.

Overall Rating

5/5

I go to the one on Oddie Blvd., its 24 friggin hours people! Yes I discovered it when I was pregnant but that’s besides the fact! I always get the Veggie Delite ($5 footlong) like this: 9 Grain Honey Oat Bread. Lite Mayo. Honey Mustard. Provolone Cheese. Extra Provolone Cheese. Red Onions. Banana Peppers. Cucumber. Sometimes Bell Peppers. All the shakers. And my favorite, extra-extra-extra-extra-extra lettuce!  Im talking cant-close-the-sandwich is-this-girl-serious amount of lettuce. Today when I went, I asked for the extra extra lettuce and the girl behind the counter sarcastically grabs like half the bin of lettuce and says, “Is this good?” and chuckled and I replied Yes that’s exactly how much I want! She asked are you serious? I said yes!!

When you bite into it, its literally a salad sandwich. When I eat it, its just cuddle-with-yo-baby-daddy-all-night-long good. Try my sandwich and let love prevail!

Egg Roll King

Egg Roll King is a Chinese fast food restaurant in Sparks, and my overall rating is…. 3/5

Food – 2/5

Wait Time – 5/5

Price – 5/5

Service – 1/5

Bathroom – N/A due to no restroom

Cleanliness – 4/5

Environment – 5/5

The Food: Its okay. Portions are plentiful and cheap. I ordered shrimp fried rice and shrimp egg rolls and  the rice was good, but there was barely any shrimp in it!  I’m talking a whole to-go box filled to the top with below average fried rice, and a couple of shrimps on top. The shrimp that was in the rice were so bland! No seasonings at all. It was just eh. The egg rolls had long stringy cabbage that was difficult to bite through, leaving my husband and i with stringy cabbage hanging down our egg rolls. The egg rolls were very crispy, I do have to say, but theyre supposed to be shrimp egg rolls and I couldnt even taste it. Probably because it was so little of shrimp used, and bland.

The Wait Time: Phenomenal, if the food was good! It took 5 minutes or less to get egg rolls and rice, and that impressed me. Too bad the food wasn’t great.

The Price: Shrimp fried rice 6.50. Shrimp egg rolls (3) – 2.99. Not bad prices and they have a house special for 3.95 that comes with 1 egg roll, pork fried rice, and chicken chow mien! That’s a deal, but the quality of food definitely needs a rise.

The Service: Not greeted. No smiles. No eye contact. Boo!

Cleanliness: It was clean; tables, floor, counter. Its just that the floor needs new tile, its very scuffed.

Environment: It seems a bit contradicting, but the customers were happy and its always has a nice customer in/out flow so I had to rate it high. It looks to be a family business and I can see the way they interact with each other and its loving and laughing, but toward customers they’re shy!

I come here probably every 6 months, if that, when I just want Chinese food NOW and they have that for a not-so-bad price. Its filling and portions are great, but I cant say this enough, it needs more flavor!

No Bake Energy Balls

This recipe is adapted from ‘Gimme Some Oven’ and I tweaked it a little for my preference. I like love these! Guilt free too. Pretty easy to make. It was made in a Tupperware bowl and transferred to a paper plate. One dish recipe, I’m all in!

Now these are kind of earthy, granola bar-ish so take that to mind when making these. My 2 year old liked them, but the adults love em.

1 Cup Rolled Oats

1/2 Cup Wheat Germ

3/4 Cup Peanut Butter

1/2 Cup Maple Syrup

1 Cap Vanilla Extract

1/2 Cup Shredded Coconut

1/3 Cup Sunflower Seeds

1/2 Cup Raisins

1/3 Cup Chopped Peanuts

1 Cup Honey Bunches of Oats Cereal (this gave it a nice crunch)

Mix all ingredients until thoroughly blended. Wet hands as needed and roll into balls. This made me 30 small energy balls. Refrigerate about 30 minutes & keep them cold. (Keeping them in the fridge is my preference, but I’m sure you can keep them at room temp.) The recipe I adapted this from said to add chocolate chips, but I wasn’t in the mood for chocolate and it came out great!

Its A New Day

“I didn’t dance because I was good at it; I did it because I wanted to. Because nobody else can dance for me, no matter how “good” she is. If I feel a yearning to dance, then I’m going to dance. It’s not about whether I’m good or secure or I belong. Here’s my hunch: nobody’s secure, and nobody feels like she completely belongs….But some people dance anyway, and those people have more fun. On my deathbed, I’m not going to wish I had danced like JLo; I’m just going to wish I had danced more. If anywhere in your soul, you feel the desire to write(or paint, or sing, or exercise) please…As a gift to yourself and others. Everyone has a story to tell. Writing is not about creating tidy paragraphs that sound lovely or choosing the “right” words. Its just about noticing who you are and noticing life and sharing what you notice. When you write your truth, it is a love offering to the world because it helps us feel braver and less alone. And if you’re a really, really bad writer, then it might be most important for you to write because your writing might free other really, really bad writers to have a go at it anyway….If you feel something call you to dance or write or paint or sing, please refuse to worry about whether you’re good enough. Just do it. Be generous. Offer a gift to the world that no one else can offer: yourself.”
